Walmart Parking Lot Crash That Injured 74-Year-Old Leads To DUI, Battery Charges For Joliet Man
He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and then taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

JOLIET, IL — One week after a 74-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the Walmart parking lot at 2424 W. Jefferson St. after being run over by a vehicle, the Joliet Police Department said the driver, 37-year-old Herbert Hume of Joliet, is now in the Will County Jail.
Hume is charged with four counts of aggravated DUI and two crimes of aggravated battery.
According to Tuesday's press release from police spokesman Dwayne English, Hume was identified as the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze that struck and seriously injured a 74-year-old woman in the Walmart parking lot on the afternoon of Oct. 7.

Last week, police said Hume's Chevy Cruz backed out of a parking stall and crashed into the passenger side of a Ford Escape that was stopped faced southbound in the lane, waiting for another uninvolved vehicle to back out. The 74-year-old woman, who was a passenger, and the woman who was driving the Ford Escape got out of their vehicle to check the damage and speak with Hume, police said.

"During this interaction, it is believed that the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze began driving in reverse, striking the (74-year-old) woman and causing her to fall to the ground. The driver then drove forward, hitting the woman while she was on the ground and pinning her beneath the vehicle," English said last week.
Police said Hume attempted to drive away, but was stopped by bystanders in the parking lot, who stepped in to assist the victim. Police say alcohol may have played a part in the incident, based on observation of Hume and additional testing.
Traffic investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Hume on Oct. 10 for four counts of Aggravated DUI and two counts of aggravated battery. Hume was placed into custody without incident on Monday at 4:35 p.m., in the 2900 block of West Jefferson Street.
He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
