'Weak and Jealous Man' Gets 12 Years For Vicious Hunting Knife Attack on Girlfriend

The Joliet man slashed his girlfriend from her collarbone to her breast with a hunting knife.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man’s failed attempt to strangle and slash his girlfriend to death with a hunting knife got him 12 years in prison.

Bradley Schlott, 48, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak.

Schlott viciously attacked the 43-year-old woman he was living with in Joliet in March 2009. The woman said in a court petition that she was getting ready for work and had just stepped out of the shower when Schlott grabbed her.

Schlott threw her into a wall and punched her repeatedly in the head. He then dragged her into the bedroom where he strangled her and stabbed her in the neck with a hunting knife.

“I screamed that he cut me and he told me he was going to cut my f--king head off,” she said.

Schlott sliced off a chunk of the woman’s hair as she “begged for him to stop.” He then choked her until she passed out.

When she came to, Schlott told her he was going to kill her and take his own life. He then slashed her from her collarbone to her breast.

Schlott eventually abandoned his brutal assault and called 911.

The attack was apparently prompted by Schlott’s suspicions that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

After Schlott was found guilty and locked up in March, Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow insulted him.

“Bradley Schlott is a weak and jealous man who savagely attacked his former girlfriend because he could no longer control her,” Glasgow said. “Their nine-year relationship was coming to an end and he had lost his job. In his cowardly rage, he hatched a plan to brutally murder her and then commit suicide. By fighting back, this courageous victim not only saved her own life but helped police and prosecutors put this monster behind bars.”
