White Out — Teenage Girl Slipped on Baby Powder Sprinkled on Plainfield North Bleachers: Lawsuit

The former Plainfield North High School student slipped and fell during "a school tradition known as 'white out,'" the lawsuit said.

JOLIET, IL — A former Plainfield North High School student suffered a serious injury during a football game when she slipped on baby powder spread around the bleachers, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Melissa Faggett, 19, is suing the high school, the school district, former Dean of Students James O’Hara, and “unknown students, teachers and school supervisors.”

Faggett was a Plainfield North student when she took a tumble during an October 2015 football game and her shoulder struck a railing, the lawsuit said.

Faggett slipped on baby powder, which students had been “encouraged” to “sprinkle … all over the aluminum stands in the bleachers as a school tradition known as ‘white out,’” the lawsuit said.

Faggett sustained a “serious injury,” the lawsuit said, and still endures “pain and suffering, and scarring.”
