JOLIET, IL — On Friday, Jim Reilly officially announced his candidacy for Will County Sheriff, and his press release pledged to bring honesty, integrity, experience, and accountability to the office during a time when public safety is under threat.

Reilly ran for the sheriff's position two previous times, losing in close elections to incumbent Mike Kelley. Last time, Reilly had more votes than Kelly on election night, but more votes later were counted when the absentee ballots were tallied and that gave Kelly the victory.

“With over 20 years in law enforcement, I know what it takes to keep our communities safe,” Reilly declared in Friday's announcement. “Honesty and integrity matter—now more than ever. The people of Will County deserve experienced leadership that will stand up for them and support our deputies and supervisors, not political agendas.”

Reilly criticized the controversial Safe-T Act, calling it a “complete failure” that has handcuffed law enforcement officers and endangered the public.

“We’ve watched violent offenders walk free while our deputies and supervisors are forced to work under broken policies. It’s time to restore common sense and prioritize public safety. Criminals are the bad guys, not law enforcement.”

Reilly wanted people to know that he is running on a platform of restoring law and order, implementing community policing efforts, and supporting and protecting all first responders who protect our communities. His campaign will focus on real solutions to rising crime and strengthening the bond between the sheriff’s office and the community they serve.

“The badge stands for trust, service, and sacrifice,” Reilly said. “Will County deserves a Sheriff they can be proud of, not weak leadership that bends the knee to an overzealous and misguided liberal agenda.”
