Wilmington Man, 62, Leaves Dog Inside Vehicle In Braidwood: Prosecutors

BRAIDWOOD, IL — A 62-year-old man who comes from the Wilmington area, Alan Longest, now finds himself facing criminal charges from the Will County State's Attorney's Office in connection allegations of dangerous behavior toward one of his animals. Friday's criminal complaint indicates that Longest is now charged with confinement of an animal in a motor vehicle.

According to the court files from the Braidwood Police Department, Longest committed the crime at 9 p.m. July 11 at 280 East Main Street in Braidwood, which is the Casey's General Store. Longest comes from the 19400 block of West Kahler Road.

"Said defendant knowingly confined any animal ... a dog in a motor vehicle, a Ford Ranger, in such a manner that placed the animal in a life or health threatening situation by exposure to a prolonged period of extreme heat, without proper ventilation or other protection from such heat," the complaint noted.

At the time of the incident, Longest was given a pretrial notice to appear in Will County Court. The criminal charge is not one that typically involves detention in the state of Illinois.
