JOLIET — A 24-year-old Joliet resident facing six criminal charges will remain in the Will County Jail under the SAFE-T-Act in connection with allegations that Marvin Gaye Dorsey choked a woman on May Street to the point she could not breathe.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Dorsey with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and three counts of domestic battery.

According to the petition to deny Dorsey's pretrial release, the victim was on the phone arguing with Dorsey, who then showed up at her house in the 500 block of May and grabbed her by her hair and forced her into his car.

Dorsey refused to let go of her and he bit her shoulder, he bit her neck and he bit her thumb, according to prosecutors. Then, she struggled to breathe because Dorsey was choking her, according to the complaint.

From there, Dorsey drove to his house and then his mother drove his victim to the Dominos Pizza on Caton Farm Road where she called 911, according to court records. The victim was later taken to St. Joe's hospital because of her injuries.

Joliet police spoke with Dorsey about the incident and he admitted going to her house and taking her phone, however, he claimed that the victim attacked him when he went for the phone, prompting him to bite her, the petition outlined.

Prosecutors pointed out that Dorsey was just put on court supervision in December for attacking the same woman in 2023. As for Dorsey, he comes from the 2900 block of Woodside Drive, his jail records show.
