Young Man Killed in Rollover Wreck Leaves Behind Unborn Child

The young man's obituary said he was a father-to-be.

JOLIET, IL — A young man killed in a rollover wreck early Sunday morning left behind an unborn child, according to his obituary.

John Burns, 24, was a father-to-be at the time of his death, the obituary said. His daughter is to be named Kinsely.

Burns was pronounced deceased after he arrived at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. He had been a passenger in a speeding Dodge Neon SRT-4 when the driver, 24-year-old Timothy Griffin, lost control on County Line Road north of Black Road, police said.

The car reportedly bounced over the curb, took out a small tree, hit an AT&T transformer box, struck a larger tree, flipped over a few times and landed upright behind a house on Hudson Drive.

Griffin got out of the car, checked on Burns and took off, police said.

An Uber driver witnessed the crash and Griffin’s flight, police said, and residents woken by the commotion saw Griffin try to escape.

Griffin, his face bloodied from his own injuries, was captured nearby, police said.

Griffin was hospitalized and upon his release Monday afternoon taken to the Will County jail. He was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
