CARSTAR Scola’s to Give Van to Family in Need

Brookfield, IL—A Brookfield family has been chosen to receive a refurbished van thanks to a special project of CARSTAR Scola's Collision through the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides program.

The Procter family will receive the van at 10 a.m. Feb. 18 at at CARSTAR Scola’s, 9110 Ogden Ave., Brookfield. Mrs. Procter works part time at Jewel and is an ordained minister at St. Barbara's. In that role, she volunteers to counsel people in need. She also cares for her disabled husband who was injured in an accident two years ago. Their 16-year-old son works miscellaneous jobs to help the family. The van will help Mr. Procter get to his many doctor appointments.

Lou Scola, his brother Tony and many volunteers worked for almost a year on securing the vehicle, getting donated parts, refurbishing the van and selecting the family.

Car Star partnered with St Barbara’s Catholic Church's Food Pantry to find a family in need. More than 25 families filled out the application, which required them to have a valid driver’s licenses, clean driving record and proof they could provide car insurance.

“Reliable transportation is more important than ever in these tough economic times and can provide a family with a new lease on life. Our goal is to help people in our local community,” Lou Scola said in a press release. “We decided to use the Recycled Rides to make a positive effect right here in our neighborhood.”

“They are in need of a reliable form of transportation, food, clothing and money because they are so overwhelmed with household and medical bills, which doesn’t leave any additional money for basic needs,” said Scola in the press release.

Everyone who attends the Friday event is encouraged to help “pack the van” with food, warm clothings and gift cards for gas and food.

Recycled Rides is a nationwide awareness project where members of the National Auto Body Council repair and donate salvage vehicles to families in need. For more information, go to recycledrides.org.
