Ashland Avenue Rail Crossing Closed Through Saturday

Traffic will be detoured off Ashland Avenue in downtown La Grange as crews work to repair a broken rail.

LA GRANGE, IL - The Ashland Avenue railroad crossing in downtown La Grange will be closed through the end of Saturday. The emergency repair of a broken rail on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe track began early Wednesday, La Grange police said in a community alert.

The closure will be all day and night to both pedestrians and vehicles until Saturday, March 9. Detours will be posted and lead traffic to Burlington and Hillgrove avenues and then past the railroad crossings at either Kensington Avenue to the west or La Grange Road to the east.

Crews will be out repairing the broken rail between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Metra train schedules may also be affected during these times.

According to La Grange police, "residents may also experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the necessary work."
