A Westchester man faces simple assault and resisting arrest charges after police said a verbal alternation between two people escalated.
LA GRANGE, IL — A 40-year-old Westchester man faces simple assault and resisting arrest charges after La Grange Police said an argument with another person escalated and led to threats of physical violence.
Smires Bennani was arrested on Wednesday evening after police said he became involved in an argument that led to Bennani threatening to hurt the other person, police said Thursday. Police said that while being processed, Bennani also resisted officers and refused to comply with their commands, police said.
La Grange Police also arrested a 48-year-old Brookfield woman on Sept. 8 after officers arrived to handle a car accident with possible injuries, police said. Police determined that the woman did not have a valid driver’s license, failed to reduce her speed to avoid an accident, and did damage to village property.

In other incidents handled by La Grange Police this week:
- Officers responded to a broken window at a residence in the 100 block of North Gilbert Avenue. The damage was estimated at $150.
- Police also responded to graffiti on a school dumpster in the 500 block of West Ogden Avenue
- Police said that residents in the 100 block of Bluff Avenue received several text messages that threatened the residents’ well-being and safety.
- Police also handled a complaint of identity theft after a resident of North Waiola Avenue said that someone opened six different cell phone accounts in their name without their permission. The amount owed on the cell phone bills totaled $214, police said.
- Police also responded to complaints of graffiti on cement blocks at the corner of Tilden Avenue and Lincoln.
