Brookfield Lottery Winner Bought Ticket in La Grange Park

The Crossword $250,000 scratch-off ticket instantly won a top prize.

Brookfield, IL - A Brookfield man who instantly won $250,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket said he plans to share the prize with his three sons and nine grandchildren.

Tom Morrill has lived in Brookfield for 65 years, and he was at home when he scratched the top-prize winning $250,000 Crossword ticket, according to the Illinois Lottery.

“I immediately started shaking, and then I checked the ticket at least six times,” he said when he presented his ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Des Plaines.

Morrill bought the winning ticket at Citgo, 1101 North La Grange Road in La Grange Park. The retailer received a $2,500 bonus, or 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket, according to the lottery.

$250,000 Crossword is a $10 instant ticket. Of the 48 top prizes of $250,000, 12 have not yet been claimed. For more information, visit illinoislottery.com.
