Brookfield Man Killed By Suspect Fleeing Police: Cops

The 19-year-old Brookfield man was trying to avoid the suspect by swerving, reports say, but the suspect swerved the same way.

BONNER SPRINGS, KS — A Brookfield man was killed in Kansas as a suspect fleeing police in a car crashed into him, according to media reports. Reports say that Nathan Pena, 19, was killed in the crash.

On Monday, Sept. 30, 29-year-old Anthony Dorsey, of Kansas City, Kansas, was fleeing from police as they tried to stop him for a registration violation, the Kansas City Star reported police as saying.

At around 2 p.m., Dorsey approached a toll plaza, he turned around, going east in westbound lanes, FOX4 KC reported.

Pena, who was driving another car, saw Dorsey, and swerved to the side to avoid the crash. Dorsey swerved the same way, reports say, resulting in the crash. Pena was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Dorsey has been charged with felony murder.

A GoFundMe page has since been set up by Pena family friends to help with costs. "Please help me in taking away the added stress that this financial hardship will place on Jenn and Alex while they say goodbye to their boy," Linde Parvin said on the page.
