Citizens' Council of La Grange to Discuss Public Works

The second meeting of the fall will take place Oct. 14.

Citizens’ Council of La Grange will host another lively community conversation about all things Public Works. The discussion will focus primarily on the recent flooding problems, results of the ensuing flood and sewer study and the solutions underway.

Discussion will also cover street repairs, forestry, water concerns, sidewalk programs, refuse collection and many other matters related to the Public Works Department.

A little more than a year ago, La Grange streets, yards and basements were hit hard by devastating floods. No area of the Village was immune but the hardest hit were residents in the Southeast region. Since then a new sewer and flooding study was conducted, a storm water relief plan chosen along with a tax increase and bond issue to pay for it.

Citizens are also very concerned about the loss of so many large and shady Ash trees and wonder when their tree might be taken down/replaced, or how they can get cracked sidewalks repaired, water pressure and the new water pumping station on East Avenue and which materials are truly eligible for recyclable containers.

On October 14th, after a brief Council meeting, Ryan Gillingham, Director of the La Grange Public Works Department will take the floor and guide us through it all. He will begin the discussion with a summary of the recent flood damage, the village’s long battle to control flooding and the new measures being enacted to minimize future problems. Residents will learn about what the study found, recommendations (will there be a wall or berm on Brainard?) and timing for completion. Tree, water and other insightful infrastructure information will follow. The evening will wrap up with an open audience Q&A session. Residents are invited to bring their questions.

This discussion is part of the CCLG’s ongoing series of presentations on various village topics at their monthly meetings this election off-year. The public is invited, as always, to promote attendance and garner more community involvement and education.

The meeting and discussion is open to all La Grange residents and will be held on October 14th, 7:30pm at the Village Hall, 2nd floor.

The Citizens’ Council, which is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year, is a nonpartisan, non-profit group of citizen volunteers seeking to understand the needs and wants of the village so that we may evaluate and recommend candidates for local office. Its primary focus is to find the best qualified candidates for the Village of La Grange, La Grange Library Board of Trustees and the Park District of La Grange Board of Commissioners. Equally important, the Council strives to keep its members - and all residents - informed on key issues in local government. The Council seeks common ground for deliberations and decisions in order to serve the best interest of all the community. The CCLG encourages the citizens of La Grange get involved and to have a say in the character of our Village and the services we receive. Select yourself or recommend a fellow resident for a position on the Council or to run for one of the Village, Park or Library boards. If you are interested in learning more, please join the monthly meetings every 2nd Wednesday of the month from September through May.
