In July 2015, Nazareth Academy broke ground on its multi-million dollar construction project. In two short months, the Building Our Legacy Project has already seen great progress.

Permanent lights have been installed on Spirit Field, allowing for Friday night football games, in addition to night games and practices for Boys Soccer as well as the Nazareth Band Program. Student musicians have already felt the positive impact of the lights on their program.

“The lights have really energized the Naz Band because this is an experience that we have never had, but always wanted. It is something new and different. I think the new band room will help so much in the future. We will have more space to store our instruments and still have plenty of room to practice, which is currently pretty cramped,” says Anthony Frugoli ’18 of Westchester.

Nazareth’s Director of Bands, Mr. Mike Sliwinski, agrees with his students, “The addition of lights on Spirit Field allows the marching band a set, weekly rehearsal time at the conclusion of all athletic events. I want my students to have the ability to explore other clubs, sports and activities, in addition to band. This aligns with Nazareth’s mission to educate the whole person. The number of students enrolled in marching band has already grown because students are no longer faced with the ultimatum of music or athletics. They now can participate in both.”

Beyond the new lights, excavation on the 49,000 square foot academic addition has begun and includes the foundation for the west wall of the new building. Mr. Sliwinski is excited about this development as well, “The new, larger band room will correlate with the growth of the program. The new addition brings excitement to the Nazareth community. We are keeping up with the demands in all facets of education. The new construction exemplifies how Nazareth Academy is an advocate for the fine arts.

“Our expectation remains to open the doors of the new building in early fall of 2016, allowing our students and faculty to take advantage of the new class space next school year,” says Nazareth’s President, Mr. Dennis Moran.
