LA GRANGE, IL – A fitness chain that focuses on stretching is looking to open a location in La Grange.

Western Springs resident Jay Aldrich has asked La Grange for zoning permission to open StretchLab at 4 W. Calendar Ave.

The village's staff has found the request is consistent with the direction of the village's 2005 downtown plan.

According to StretchLab's website, the business' "highly trained Flexologists will give you a deeper stretch than you could ever achieve on your own."

StretchLab locations are across the country, including in Elmhurst and Willowbrook, among other suburbs.

In his application, Aldrich said 4 W. Calendar Ave. has been vacant for three years. Under its zoning, the village requires that the first 25 feet from the storefront be exclusively for retail sales. Aldrich is seeking an exception.

The village requirement effectively prevents a large pool of potential businesses from considering the space, Aldrich said.

"This increases the likelihood of it remaining vacant," he said. "Long-term vacancy will depress this property's value and ultimately depress its valuation for property tax purposes."

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the village's Plan Commission is set to consider the request.
