SUNDAY, SEPT. 16 

Gifts Reported as Undelivered

Police received a complaint at 7:19 p.m. that a resident gave another resident clothing and miscellaneous other items to take to the mother of the second resident’s child, who lives near Midway Airport, but he never delivered them. Police were unable to contact the resident.

'Suspicious' Guy Didn’t Approach House

A resident of the 200 block of Washington reported a suspicious person on the side of her house, described as being in his late 40s with a grey jacket and tan shorts. Police tracked down the man and determined he was walking past the house, but did not approach it.

Highlands Man DUI Charge

Michael J. Ciamprone, 21, of 823 Coronet Lane, La Grange Highlands, was stopped at the corner of Hillgrove Avenue and Stone Avenue at 1:03 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 15

Mystery Flaming Hot-Air Balloon?

A complainant called at 7:48 p.m. about a “mini hot-air-balloon that may be on fire floating in the air” at the corner of 47^th Street and La Grange Road and feared that the trees might be set on fire. Police could not locate said balloon.

Report of Youths Poking at Trains

Police received a report at 7:43 p.m. that several kids were at the Tilden Avenue BNSF crossing “under the railroad gates touching the train as it passed.” One was a girl with a pink shirt; others were on bikes.  The group was later reported at the community center, but officers were unable to locate the kids.

Kids Shooting Pellets at Animals

Police received a complaint at 5:54 p.m. that kids were shooting at squirrels and other animals on the 900 block of S. Spring Ave.; a boy was located who confirmed that he had saw other kids shooting at animals with plastic pellets from plastic guns. The boy was advised to warn the others not to do that.

Bus Blockage Was for Church

Police received a call at 3:07 p.m. that a bus was partially blocking the intersection on the north side of Ogden at Kensington. The buses were for a church function and were about to leave.

Woman Keeps Calling Demanding Check-Ups on Son

A Chicago woman called at 1:07 p.m. requesting a check up on her 6-year-old son who lives with her ex-husband; police went to the house, where there was no response, but the woman insisted that they were there. Police eventually reached the boy and his father, who were confirmed to be fine. The report notes that the same woman has made these requests repeatedly and they have always been unfounded.

Please Stop Going Through the Garbage

At 7:51 a.m., police warned a 62-year-old Chicago man (in the company of a 65-year-old woman) to stop going through garbage on the first block of Calendar Court, and told him he will be cited if caught doing it again. Both people left the area.

Blue Van Following Teenage Girl

A resident reported at 4:36 a.m. that her 17-year-old daughter had been followed on Friday by a suspicious person in a blue van on the 4900 block of La Grange Road. The driver never said anything to the girl, but she did not feel comfortable. Police advised that the complainants call 911 immediately if it happens again.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 14

Incident at East and Ogden

A concerned citizen flagged down an officer to report an incident at East Avenue and Ogden Avenue at 11:17 p.m. According to the citizen, the driver of a blue compact vehicle that was following a bicyclist was struggling with the biker, who cried out “let me go.” They left in opposite directions on Ogden. Police were unable to locate either.

$60 in Plants Missing

A resident on the 700 block of Madison Avenue reported at 7:26 p.m. that she returned home to find her gate open and two $30 plants missing. The resident thought the incident might have to do with meter readings and will contact Nicor or ComEd.

Sis Reportedly Took Mom's $15K

An adult resident from the 400 block of Spring Avenue reported to police at 1:28 p.m. that his sister had stolen $15,000 of his mother’s money

Prescription Taken By Wrong Person

A Walgreens customer from Brookfield reported at 9:57 a.m. that someone else had already picked up his prescription from the pharmacy. The type of medication was not disclosed.

Suspicious? Nah, Just Finding My Dog

Police received a call from the 300 block of Bluff Avenue at 9:02 a.m. to report a tall bald man with a gray shirt and jeans walking back and forth looking suspicious. Police verified that the man was just a resident looking for his lost dog. The dog and owner were reunited soon after.

Screamer Outside Starbucks

A 50-year-old man was reported to be yelling at people outside Starbucks on La Grange Road at 7:31 a.m. The homeless man spoke to police and went on his way.

Driver Without Valid License

Tiffany D. Enriquez. 24, of 9533 S. Central, Oak Lawn, was stopped at the corner of East Avenue and Ogden Avenue at 12:32 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, police said.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 13

10-Speed Bike Taken

A resident reported a men’s specialized 10-speed Hard Rock mountain bike stolen from a storage area on the 200 block of Plainfield at 12:10 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 12

Bench Used as Bathroom

Police received a complaint at 9:54 p.m. that a homeless woman had urinated on a bench on the first block of Hillgrove Avenue. Public Works was contacted to clean off the bench.

Pot Plants in Backseat?

Police received a report at 6:22 p.m. that a car driving near the intersection of East Avenue and Calendar Avenue appeared to have marijuana plants in the backseat.

Probably Not Grandson Calling from Peru

A resident reported at 12:31 p.m. receiving a call from someone using his grandson’s first name, supposedly from Peru, asking for $1,500 to get out of Peru and back to Chicago. The resident checked with his grandson’s mother, a Western Springs resident, who reported that the grandson was actually in Minnesota on business.
