Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Deborah Tracy, President, of Nazareth Academy.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Deborah Tracy: Nazareth Academy, a Catholic, coeducational, college-prep school in La Grange Park, IL, inspires academic excellence, faith, leadership, and service. Established by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1899, the school is home to 800 students from more than 100 local grammar schools in over 60 communities. The academic approach has resulted in a legacy of high-achieving students who care for one another, feel seen and heard, respect the community, engage in opportunities, and find a place to grow. The academic investment in students is reflected in recognition at the state and national levels. Nazareth’s Class of 2025 graduates are currently enrolled at 66 colleges in 24 states after earning over $52 million in merit-based scholarships. Nazareth fosters a culture of inclusivity and a welcoming environment. When this is added to the outstanding academic curriculum, Nazareth can care for the whole person while preparing them for success in college and beyond.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Deborah Tracy: As an alum, the daughter of an alum, and the parent of an alum, I am very proud to carry the mission of Nazareth Academy forward. With all the many public and private high schools in the area, I believe that Nazareth offers family a unique environment where students thrive academically and grow into their best selves.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Deborah Tracy: Visit the schools that interest you in person and pay attention to the environment both in the classrooms and in the hallways. Students spend the majority of their high school lives on campus; make sure it's in a place you are comfortable and feel like you can grow.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Deborah Tracy: Surrounded and supported by an excellent faculty, staff, Board, Administration and the Sisters of St. Joseph, I know that we are making a positive difference in students' lives.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Deborah Tracy: We take great pride in the level of involvement by our student body. At Nazareth, 96% of students participate in a club, sport or the Fine Arts. With over 40 active clubs and honor societies, student activities are a reflection of students' passions and reflect the diversity of students' interests. The dedication of student-athletes is incredible. Since the Fall of 2021, Baseball, Girls Basketball, Football and Girls Volleyball have all won State Titles. Incredible art shows, as well as drama, band and choir performances all offer student-artists richly deserved time in the spotlight and reinforce Nazareth Academy’s 125 year history of fine arts education. Student involvement is actively encouraged and supported, making Every Day a Great Day to be a Roadrunner.
