Lost Dogs Might Be Found on Riverside Police Twitter
Riverside police will tweet photos and info about lost or abandoned dogs they come across while on duty.

Riverside police will begin using Twitter to share photos and information about lost or abandoned dogs that officers find while on duty.
Officers will take a photo of the dog and post it to the Riverside Police Department Twitter with the time and location the dog was found and information about how to recover the lost dog, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Riverside Police will tweet all lost and abandoned dogs they meet, even if they are found outside Riverside.

Lt. Bill Gutschick researched this initiative and brought it to the chief to be put in place.
“This is really just a continuation of our overall animal policy when it comes to family pets,” said Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel in a statement. “In September 2014, Riverside Police announced that we were utilizing a no kill shelter for animals. Now, in addition to using that shelter, we’ll be tweeting photos of lost dogs so that they can quickly be reunited with their owners.”

When a Riverside officer finds a lost dog, it will be held for 10 days while police look for the owner, according to the police department.a After 10 days, the dog will be put up for adoption at Countryside Veterinarian Center.
Riverside police hope that tweeting dog photos will accelerate the process of owners finding them.
