Extensive delays are expected for inbound and outbound trains on the BNSF line, and a Metra spokesperson said they don't know how long the delays will last.
Train No. 1239 left Chicago at 3:18 p.m. and was running express to Downers Grove Main Street, where it was expected to arrive at 3:41 p.m.
The pedestrian was hit near Pulaski Road, where the tracks are elevated above the road, the spokesperson said. BNSF police reported the fatality.
Metra riders are advised to seek alternative means of transportation.
