The dangerous cold and a lack of heat at the church they work and live in hasn’t stopped the nuns of Fraternite Notre Dame from continuing to help their West Side neighborhood, according to an ABC 7 report.

Two weeks ago, the Austin neighborhood church’s main boiler broke, and the secondary boiler gave out Wednesday, Feb. 18, the report stated. That’s created an indoor temperature of 32 degrees and frozen the church/s holy water, the report added. The sisters are using space heaters to stay warm, according to the report.
Those conditions, however, haven’t deterred the nuns, who are still helping the homeless and visiting AIDS patients, the report stated.

“We want to continue no matter what, but sometimes it is not easy,” Sister Marie Valerie said.
The sisters need $40,000 in order to fix their heating system and hope to get that through donations, the report stated.
People can help by making a donation to the church at GoFundMe.
