LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange firefighters plan to use a park building for open burn training exercises later this week.

The structure, which long housed a nonprofit group, is in La Grange's Denning Park. The building is across the street from Lyons Township High School's South Campus in Western Springs.

The exercises are scheduled for Wednesday through Friday. The public is told to expect to see fire and smoke.

"This is a planned training, not an emergency," the Park District of La Grange said on Facebook on Friday. "Park users may notice increased fire department presence and activity in the area during these times. For everyone's safety, please use caution when near the training site."

Last month, the La Grange Village Board approved an agreement with the district to let local firefighters hold training in the building before its demolition.
