Project Day to Benefit Veterans, Active Duty Military
The American Legion Auxiliary project day will take place Oct. 10. at the Robert E. Coulter Jr. American Legion Hall.

Community members are invited to join American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1941 to complete projects in support of veterans, active duty troops and military families.
The project day will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Post Home, Robert E. Coulter, Jr. American Legion Hall, 900 South La Grange Road in La Grange.

The day is organized in open house style: arrive when you can, leave when you need to or simply stop by to drop off non-perishable food donations. Full details available on the auxiliary website.

- Collecting non-perishable food for the 7th Annual Veterans Food Drive which provides Thanksgiving food baskets for low-income veterans and their families.
Most needed items include:- Proteins: canned beans, tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits
- Shelf-stable: jelly, stew, chili, soup, pasta sauce, cake mixes and frosting
- Dry, ready-to-make packs of: potatoes, breads, rice, stuffing
- Creating hand-made greeting cards for hospitalized veterans at Hines VA Hospital to brighten patient rooms and spirits.
- Assembling paracord survival braceletsfor active duty troops to be distributed via Operation Gratitude care packages. We’re doubling our goal to 200 bracelets!
- Collecting and organizing household coupons for military families to use at their local commissaries on military bases around the globe!
