LA GRANGE, IL – Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Virginia Kogen, who nominated Samuel, a 12th grader in La Grange.

Why do you believe the Star local student should be recognized?

Sam has been running his own non-profit bike shop since the summer of 2020. He gets bike donations, fixes them up and donates them to local homeless shelters and families who don’t have cars.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the Star local student?

Sam loves seeing the smiles on his customers’ faces when they come to pick up their fixed bicycles. In his “spare time,” he plays lots of instruments, especially the guitar. He is hoping to start performing live.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Samuel!
