Safety Tips for a Fun Halloween
Make a map of your trick or treat route for children and parents.

Halloween is an exciting time of year for children and adults. To help plan for a safe holiday, here are some tips.
Parents:

- Accompany your children on the Halloween route
- Send older children out with friends, a watch, and a flashlight. Agree upon where they will be going and when they will return
Children:
- Use make-up, instead of a mask, for better visibility
- Wear light-colored clothing or costumes
- Make a map of your trick or treat route for you and your parents
- Carry a a flashlight or light stick
- Stay in your own neighborhood
- Always keep a safe distance between you and moving cars
- Be respectful of other people and their property
- Stop only at well-lighted houses
- Have a parent check the treats before you eat them
- Start early, end early
- Use sidewalks or walk facing traffic
- Stop, look, and listen at corners
- Walk, do not run
- Do not go between parked cars, crisscross back and forth across streets or into traffic
- Do not go inside a stranger’s house, no matter what anyone says
- Do not carry sharp instruments. Never carry a lighted torch or candle.
