The mission of the Aktion Club is to provide adults with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills and to serve their communities. The Distinguished Club Award recognizes Aktion Clubs for their overall performance in the combined areas of club administration, membership and leadership development, Kiwanis-family involvement, and service and fundraising efforts. The club’s performance is judged against a pre-established standard of excellence.

This award adds to the impressive total of awards achieved by individual members and the SEASPAR Aktion Club as a whole – it has accumulated the most awards of any Aktion Club in the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District of Kiwanis International. Also in 2015, the SEASPAR Aktion Club won first place in the District’s Scrapbook Contest.

News of the Distinguished Club Award came on November 23, the day the SEASPAR Aktion Club celebrated its 10th anniversary at its Annual Recognition and Installation Dinner. Since its creation in 2005, the club has raised funds and performed service projects for causes including veteran and senior services, hunger and disaster relief, health and medical research, animal welfare, and many more. The club’s first donation was to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts on September 19, 2005.

“We are so proud of what the club has done collectively, and in the individual growth of each member,” said Susan Friend, Executive Director of SEASPAR. “They think more globally now. They actively look for ways to share with others and support people in our communities and around the world.”

More than 500 Kiwanis Aktion Clubs have more than 12,000 members worldwide. Aktion Club is the only community service club for adults with disabilities.
