Westen Springs Family Fighting, Fundraising for Daughter's Cure
Brad and Sue Wilson's Children's Medical Research Foundation has raised $3.5 million for research on Sanfilippo syndrome, which affects their daughter Kirby.
A Western Springs family whose daughter is afflicted by Sanfilippo syndrome, a metabolic disorder that causes excessive storage of harmful stubstances in the body, has spent the last 18 years raising $3.5 million for research—and countless awareness—for the disease, The Doings Western Springs reports.
According to the paper, Brad and Sue Wilson's daugter Kirby, 21, has already well outlived doctors' estimates and is about to graduate from Lyons Township High School's Transitions program for students with special needs; meanwhile, her parents continue their efforts, with a fundraising dinner dance scheduled for Friday at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago.
“I really believe with all the knowledge gained over 18 years, [researchers] will get it,” Sue Wilson told the paper, of a cure to come from their efforts.
