YMCA Returning to Former La Grange Site?

Although the property is not currently for sale, officials have acknowledged that there is interest in a potential new facility.

Officials with the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago are considering building a gym on the site of the former Rich Port YMCA, The Doings Western Springs reports.

The Rich Port "Y" occupied a spot on the north side of Ogden Avenue just east of La Grange Road for nearly 60 years before it was closed in 2007 and demolished in 2010.

The paper reported that while the property is not currently up for sale, a spokeswoman for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago said that Greater La Grange YMCA board members were among those looking for a way to rebuild a La Grange facility.

Village President Liz Asperger told the paper that officials were currently measuring the feasibility of such a project.

Prior plans to build on the site were ensnared in the legal challenges surrounding the sale of a small parcel of land in nearby Gordon Park.
