2 Electrocuted In Tree-Trimming Accident In Waukegan

WAUKEGAN, IL — Two employees of Waukegan's Public Works Department were injured Thursday morning in an electrocution accident while trimming trees, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Pershing and Greenwood avenues, according to fire officials.

Officials said the workers were conducting tree-trimming operations with other crew members when a truck equipped with a crane boom made contact with a power line, energizing the vehicle and injuring the two men.

One worker, who suffered electrical burns, was flown to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. The second worker was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by ambulance, according to Waukegan Fire Marshal Todd Zupec.

Public Works co-workers on the scene called 911 and administered first aid until paramedics arrived. ComEd crews also responded to ensure the area was safe from further electrical hazards, officials said.

Its not clear if both workers remained hospitalized, and no additional details were immediately available.
