9-Year-Old Child Stabbed By Mom's Boyfriend In Beach Park: Sheriff
Authorities said a 30-year-old man was arrested at the Waukegan Metra station and charged with attempted murder.

BEACH PARK, IL — A Beach Park man has been charged with attempted murder after he repeatedly stabbed the 9-year-old child in the home they shared, authorities said.
Deputies were called to a home in the 38000 block of Manor Avenue around 10:45 a.m. for a report of a stabbing, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Inside, they found the critically injured child, who was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators learned that the child's mother had gotten a call that morning asking why the child had not come to school.
When she returned to the home, she saw her boyfriend —30-year-old Demetrius Fisher — leaving the home. And when he saw her, he took off running, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies learned Fisher had boarded a bus and was probably heading to a nearby train station, according to a statement from Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ari Briskman.
They found Fisher at the Waukegan Metra station and took him into custody there, Briskman said.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office later approved a charge of attempted first degree murder, and Fisher is due in court for a first appearance in Waukegan Friday morning.
Court records show Fisher had been charged with resisting arrest and domestic battery following an April 2023 incident, but prosecutors dropped the charges last month.
A spokesperson for the state's attorney's office told Patch the charges involved Fisher punching a woman in the arm and the pulling her hair, but there were no weapons involved or resulting injuries.
"The adult victim was not cooperative," said Sara Avalos, "and it appears she did not appear for trial dates in August 2023 or January 2024."
