Air Quality Alert Declared for Second Day in a Row

Lake Forest and Lake Bluff — along with the rest of Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Grundy, McHenry and Will County — are under an air quality alert from Tuesday night through Wednesday night, according to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). The area was also under alert Monday night through Tuesday night. 

The IEPA has declared an Air Pollution Action Day for Weds. August 21 for the Greater Chicago Metropolitan area. An Action Day is declared when the weather conditions can cause widespread ozone and/or particulate levels are expected to be at or above the unhealthy air quality level for sensitive groups. 

"Active children and adults, and especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor activity," a notice on Accuweather states. 

Residents and businesses in the affected area are being asked by the IEPA to take steps to reduce contributions to air pollution, such as reducing energy usage and taking public transportation. More information on what you can do to reduce contributions is available here.
