Best Ice Cream Shop In Lake Forest, Lake Bluff: Readers Pick

Locals are evenly split between a pair of popular area creameries around Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, according to recent survey.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Ahead of National Ice Cream Day this week, Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch asked readers to share their recommendations for the best ice cream places in town.

The results are in, and readers were evenly split between the two most popular shops in the area — one in Lake Forest's Market Square and one just north of Lake Bluff village limits.

Hooyah's Ice Cream Shoppe opened in spring 2020 at the Great Lakes Metra station, 3000 S. Sheridan Road in North Chicago.

Why do readers say it's the best in the area?

Readers praised the "wonderful friendly staff," "fun and different flavors" and presentations like "ships and dips" and "charcuterie board."

"The people are amazing, a big patio to hang out on, and highest quality hard pack around (cedar point!!)," one reader said.

"The waffle chips and ice cream flavors. Love that they have a mix between traditional flavors plus fun new ones," said another.

Some of the go-to orders recommended by readers included Caramel Collision, blueberry waffle cone, cookie monster and the Barge — nine scoops of your choice for $12.

Sweet's, at 260 E. Deerpath Road in Lake Forest, was about equally popular among Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch readers, who raved about the smell of freshly made chocolate at the shop.

"Best ice cream and sweets in town. Friendly staff and very clean," one reader said.

What makes it the best around?

"Variety of flavors and sweets," according to one reader. "As well as every cone selection, soft serve, candy, etc."

"The cozy atmosphere, good friendly service and GREAT ice cream," said another.

Mackinaw Island fudge, caramel explosion, Blue Moon and pralines and cream were among the most recommended flavors at Sweet's.
