During construction, a detour route will send motorists along Illinois Route 173, also known as 21st Street; Green Bay Road, also known as Illinois 131, and York House Road.

Trucks drivers will have their own posted detour that will bypass Sheridan on Route 173 and Route 41 instead.

Local access to homes and businesses inside the construction zone will not be restricted during the project, according to transportation officials.

The culvert replacement project is part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program. It will include a new triple box culvert, the installation of new storm sewers and ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps on both sides of Sheridan Road.

The $33.2 billion capital program plans to enhance more 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck over the next six years, according to IDOT.

During the past four years, the Rebuild Illinois program has led to improvements to 5,339 miles of highway, 533 bridges, and 762 other safety enhancements.

Motorists in the area were advised to expect delays and to allocate additional time for travel through. IDOT officials also urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and be vigilant for workers and equipment in work zones.
