Drunken driver accidentally arrives at police station; cops pose as teen girl to target predators: Lake Forest Police Blotter

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
William A. Parrish, 24, of the 2800 block of North Sheridan Road, Beach Park, was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on April 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing into a concrete median on Route 41 at Route 60. He was slumped over in the driver's seat, with a large number of empty and partially empty alcoholic beverages around the car. Parrish was also issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. A warrant was issued for his failure to appear in court on the charges on July 24.
Jose E. De Jesus, 23, of the 1900 block of Bristol Circle, Carpentersville, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on April 24 and charged with driving under the influence after he drove up behind the police department without knowing where he was. At the time, members of the fire department were training and contacted police after noticing he smelled like alcohol.

Jeffrey L. Berlin, 61, of the 600 block of Dunsten Circle, Northbrook, was arrested around 10 p.m. on April 26 near the interesection of Waukegan Road and Gavin Court. Berlin was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Police reported they smelled alcohol on his breath and found a partially empty bottle of gin in his SUV after pulling it over for various traffic offenses.
David P. Randon, 65, of the 300 block of North Dryden Place, Arlington Heights, was arrested around 11 p.m. on May 5 and charged with traveling to meet a minor and indecent solicitation of a minor after an investigator with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force posing as a 15-year-old girl arranged to meet up with him in a public park in Lake Forest.

Mitsugu Takajima, 42, of the 1100 block of Museum Boulevard, Vernon Hills, was arrested around 10 p.m. on May 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Waukegan Road. He was also ticketed for speeding 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.
John B. Wolf, 49, of the 800 block of North Oakwood Avenue, Lake Forest, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on May 15 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery following an allegation that he had pushed a former partner down five or six stairs.
Glenn P. Stephens, 68, of the 1300 block of Appletree Lane, Libertyville, was arrested on May 16 in Vernon Hills and charged with presence of a registered sex offender on school grounds after an automated license plate reader alerted police that he was driving a Mini Cooper around Lake Forest Academy's campus on April 19.

Bharatkumar M. Patel, 53, of the 1100 block of Lockwood Drive, Buffalo Grove, was arrested on May 24 and cahrged with obstructing police and driving with a suspended license after he provided false information during a traffic stop at the intersection of Westleigh and Buena roads.
Maria Sandoval, 50, of the 1100 block of Chestnut Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on May 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a one-car crash on Route 41 north of Westmoreland Road. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Carlos A. Perez-Mendez, 32, of the 400 block of Jackson Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on June 4 and charged with driving under the influence following an investigation into a one-car crash near the intersection of Route 41 and Route 60. Perez-Mendez, who said he had only a "few beers" prior to driving, was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper lane usage.
Valeri H. Mitev, 63, of the 500 block of South Yorktown Lane, Lake Forest, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. on June 6 and charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police were told he brandished a handgun at another driver while driving a blue Maserati on Route 41. Mitev claimed he just pointed his finger, rather than his gun, at the other driver, but the other driver was able to provide an accurate description of the gun police found in Mitev's glove box.
Christian Cruz, 18, of the 5100 block of Wonder Woods Drive, Wonder Lake, was arrested around 10 p.m. on June 9 and charged with minor consumption of alcohol and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver following a traffic stop on Old Elm and Everett roads. Police reported they pulled him over after getting a 911 call about a group of teens drinking and smoking weed in Northcroft Park.
Gregorio Sanchez, 55, of the 400 block of Westmoreland Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 5:15 p.m. on June 10 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated driving with a revoked license and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 800 block of South Waukegan Road. A 911 caller told authorities he had been driving erratically and had nearly struck oncoming vehicles. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol after police found several open and unopened containers of beer in the car, including one half-full beer in the center console.
Nashunda Greathouse, 41, of the 2900 block of 27th Street, Zion, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on June 11 near the intersection of Route 41 and Old Elm Road after a 911 call about a one-car crash. Police found a heavily damaged SUV and pulled it over. When they spoke to the driver, identified as Greathouse, she told officers she believed she was in Wisconsin and told them she believed that it was about six hours earlier than it was. After she was taken into custody police found an opened bottle of tequila and a bag containing cannabis.
Maurice D. Minor, 48, of the 9900 block of South Forest Street, Chicago, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. on June 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license revoked following a report of a traffic crash. When they arrived, officers found Minor asleep behind the wheel of his Jeep, with one of the SUV's bumpers sitting in the roadway. Minor was taken to the hospital, where a sample indicated he had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit for intoxication. He was also issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Colin J. Ward, 21, of the 1200 block of Walden Lane, Deerfield, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on June 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a one-car crash at the intersection of Waukegan and Everett roads. Ward was found walking outside the heavily damaged car and admitted having two beers prior to driving.
Ryan Douglass, 45, of the 200 block of East Granby Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on June 22 and charged with theft and criminal trespassing after police got a call about someone stealing alcohol from the Jewel-Osco at 890 N. Western Ave., located him and determined he had violated a no-trespassing order and stolen alcohol from the store. Douglass was arrested again at the same Jewel-Osco on July 6 and charged with theft and trespassing.
Kathleen A. Horvay, 72, of the 1200 block of Lynn Terrace, Highland Park, was arrested around 11:15 a.m. on June 24 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after she crashed into other cars and a fence near the intersection of at West Laurel Avenue and Hawkweed Lane. A witness told police that she may have been intoxicated due to her general demeanor and incoherent statements. Officers interviewed her at Lake Forest Hospital and charged her with DUI.
Conor Fahey, 25, of the the 300 block of Basewood Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on June 30 at the police station and charged with indecent solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a child after arranging to meet an officer assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children task force who was posing as a 15-year-old girl.
Kevin Smalls, 29, of the 300 block of Lake Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 8 a.m. on July 2 and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, driving without a license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following an investigation into a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath Road. Officers found he had a firearm hidden in a black pouch outside of the car and did not have a concealed carry license.
Eric J. Corimo, 27, of the 9400 block of Lawler Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 8 p.m. on July 11 and charged with five felony charges including financial exploitation of an elderly person, continuing financial crimes enterprise and theft as the result of an investigation that began in April.
Diego Gutierrez, 24, of the 800 block of Cory Lane, Wheeling, was arrested around 7 p.m. on July 17 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to the area of Waukegan and Knollwood roads for a report of a heavily damaged car driving around a parking lot. Police determined Gutierrez had damaged property outside of a grocery store in Lake Bluff before driving back to Lake Forest. He was also issued citations for unlawful transportation of an open container of alcohol and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver.
Phoenix H. Pearson, 45, of the 600 block of Beverly Place, Lake Forest, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. on July 30 and charged with aggravated domestic battery of an elderly person and domestic battery after determining that she had battered at person at her home.
