Ex Charged With Murder-For-Hire In Slaying Of North Chicago Woman
After a break-up, a 35-year-old hired a fellow Waukegan man to kill his former partner, cops say. Both face first-degree murder charges.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Two Waukegan men are accused of plotting to kill a North Chicago woman after she broke up with one of them, authorities said.
Around 6 a.m. Friday, the woman left a home near the corner of Victoria Avenue and 11th Street and returned to a car parked in a driveway with another person, according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
As they got to the car, a man walked up and began shooting, fatally striking the woman. The gunman also attempted to kill the other occupant of the car but missed before running away, a task force spokesperson said.

The coroner's office has yet to publicly identify the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, because they had not been able to make contact with her next of kin.
Seferino Calihua-Rodriguez, 35, of the 1500 block of Hamilton Court, Waukegan, was arrested the day of the shooting and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder and solicitation of murder for hire, according to the task force.

Calihua-Rodriguez was previously in a relationship with the victim. After it ended, investigators believe he became upset and arranged to hire 26-year-old Misael Chavarin-Plazola to kill her.
Chavarin-Plazola, of the 700 block of Linden Lane in Waukegan, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was arrested Saturday.
Both men had an initial court appearance Monday, where they were ordered held until a detention hearing tomorrow on a petition to order them to remain behind bars while awaiting trial. The coroner's office is expected to provide an update following notification of the victim's family.
