Gallery: Scout Hockey Honors Seniors, Tradition

When the Lake Forest girls’ hockey team honored its five seniors Thursday before defeating New Trier, 9-1, at the Lake Forest College rink, it was a celebration of the program’s achievement as much as the individuals.

For a team that was started 10 years ago by former Scout and Brown University captain Jenna Dancewicz because she had nowhere to play, Lake Forest has grown into a state power. None of the five seniors know what is like not to play for a state championship.

Lucy Baron, Katherine Hayes and Maddie Pfalzer are four-year varsity letter winners who have played for the state title the last three years, winning it in 2011. Frannie Sensenbrenner and Bridget Roche are three-year members of the team and know the same success.

In addition to playing for three state crowns and hoping for a fourth trip this year—the Scouts are in the semifinals—all five have seniors have earned personal recognition. Pfalzer, the captain, has been al all state selection each season while Alternate Captain Roche was all state last year and this.

Baron was named to the all tournament Blackhawk Cup team in 2011 after the Scouts secured the state title. Sensenbrenner was selected for all academic honors this season.
