Overall Crime Decreased By 14% in Lake Forest In 2025: State Police
Overall, crime decreased in Lake Forest in 2025, according to data from the Illinois State Police.
LAKE FOREST, IL — Crime in Lake Forest decreased by more than 14 percent in 2025, according to data from the Illinois State Police.
The Illinois State Police records "Group A" offenses, which include all incidents committed within a law enforcement agency's jurisdiction. The data is divided into three categories: crimes against persons, property and society.
Crime decreased overall in Lake Forest this year, going from 292 reported incidents in 2024 to 250 in 2025. This averages out to a rate of 1,277 incidents per 100,000 people, according to the Illinois State Police.

Crimes Against Persons
In 2025, the total crimes against persons — which include offenses such as murder, assault, sex offenses and human trafficking — recorded in Lake Forest were 33. In 2024, the city recorded a total of 32 of these types of offenses.
Despite the increase in crimes against persons, Lake Forest recorded its fifth year in a row without any reported murders. The most reported personal crime in Lake Forest in 2025 was simple assault, with 19 incidents reported.

In Lake County, the number of personal crimes reported in 2025 decreased when compared to the previous year. The total personal crimes reported in the county were 4,624 in 2025, down from 4,919 in 2024.
The statewide trend for crimes against persons also decreased significantly in 2025, going from 202,004 in the prior year to 170,637.

Crimes Against Property
Property crimes — which include robbery, burglary, theft, vehicle theft and fraud — decreased in Lake Forest in 2025. The city reported a total of 194 property crimes in 2025, compared to 231 reported in 2024, representing a 16 percent decrease.
The most common property crimes reported in 2025 in Lake Forest were larceny/theft, with 78 reported, and fraud, with 81 reported.
Lake County property crimes also decreased, going from 11,131 reported incidents in 2024 to 9,365 in 2025. Statewide, property crimes decreased in 2025, going from 375,012 in 2024 to 170,637 reported incidents.

Crimes Against Society
Crimes against society — which include drug-related offenses, pornography, prostitution, weapons law violations and animal cruelty — decreased by nearly 21 percent in Lake Forest. In 2025, a total of 23 incidents were reported, while 29 were reported in 2024.
Society crimes in Lake County in 2025 stayed relatively the same compared to 2024, with 1,559 incidents reported this year and 1,570 reported last year.
The trend continued statewide, with crimes against society decreasing in 2025 to 52,930 from 59,147 in 2024.
