High Spirits Higher Stilts: Lake Forest's Historic Hanukah Celebration
A Night of Joyful Traditions: Lake Forest Embraces Inclusivity and Celebration at First Public Menorah Lighting

Lake Forest, IL – In a historic first, Lake Forest celebrated Hanukah with a public menorah lighting in Market Square, marking a momentous occasion for the community. The event, highlighted by the participation of Mayor Dr. Randy Tack and Rabbi Mosehe Spalter, was not just a celebration of Hanukah but a symbol of unity and diversity in our beloved city.
As Pete Jansons, host of the Lake Forest Podcast, I was thrilled to witness this landmark event. The festival was not just lit by the menorah's flames; it was also illuminated by a 14-foot-high, LED-clad creature wandering through the crowd. This towering, glowing presence added a whimsical and spectacular touch to the evening – and let's just say, standing next to it, I felt more like a garden gnome in comparison!
Rabbi Mosehe Spalter kicked off the event by expressing his gratitude for the gathering and reflecting on the historic significance of the first public menorah lighting in Lake Forest. His words about the triumph of light over darkness resonated deeply, especially in these times.
Mayor Dr. Randy Tack added to the evening’s sentiment, highlighting the inclusiveness of the Lake Forest community and the welcoming nature of Chabad of Lake Forest for new families. His speech underscored our city's commitment to embracing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging.
