Lake Bluff Man, 22, Was High During Hit-And-Run Crashes: Blotter

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
John Kaptrosky, 22, of the 200 block of Sheridan Road, Lake Bluff, was arrested around 6 a.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of a crash and unlawful possession of cannabis after officers were dispatched to a report of a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Route 43 and Route 60. Witnesses told police that the driver of a Chevrolet SUV had run a red light, crashed into another car and sped away. During the investigation, someone reported another hit-and-run near the intersection of Route 43 and Route 22. Police said they determined Kaptrosky, who was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, was responsible for both hit-and-run incidents.
Philip Howard, 34, of the 800 block of Eastwood Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 2 on an active Cook Cook arrest warrant and picked up the new charge of obstructing identification after officers found him sleeping at the train depot in the 600 block of Western Avenue. Officers reported lied to them about his identity in an attempt to avoid going to jail.

Maxim Untenfenger, 23, of the 2100 block of Vermont Street, Rolling Meadows, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a hit-and-run at Western Avenue and Woodland Road. His car was identified with the help of a witness and he was also issued citations for disregarding a traffic control device and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Marcos Dimas, 39, of the 700 block of North Latrobe Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license after police were dispatched to the area of Route 60 and Route 41 for a complaint about a motorist. Officers found the car and witnessed the driver commit multiple lane violations before pulling him over and noticing he appeared impaired. He was also issued citations for possession of an open container of alcohol by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, registration suspended for no insurance, improper lane usage and failure to signal when required.

Michael R. Schlaffer, 34, of the 600 block of Laurel Avenue, Wauconda, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 after he summoned police to the train depot and notified them that he was wanted in McHenry County and wished to be arrested. After verifying his identity and the validity of the warrant, officers took him to Lake County Jail without incident. McHenry County court records indicate he is awaiting trial on charges including aggravated battery and bringing a controlled substance into a penal institution.
