Lake Forest's Newest Playground Open For Family Fun
More than 100 residents celebrated the official opening of the Forest Park Beach playground over the weekend.

LAKE FOREST, IL — The lake Forest community can now enjoy its newest playground, installed at Forest Park Beach and officially open as of Nov. 1.
More than 100 residents attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, becoming among the first to climb, explore and enjoy the upgraded play space.
“The new playground is more than just a place to play – it’s a space for kids, families, and neighbors to come together while enjoying Lake Forest’s beautiful lakefront,” said Mayor Stanford Tack.

The city decided on the playground's design after more than 570 residents responded to a survey and provided feedback on two design concepts they were presented. City officials paid attention to feedback to make sure the new playground would have improved accessibility, expanded sensory play, increased shade and exciting climbing features.
The original playground was built in 2004 and was meant to have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, and
was due for an upgrade, the city said.

“Forest Park Beach is a beloved destination, and we wanted the new playground to reflect the needs of our community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Mike Wick. “Thanks to the input from hundreds of residents, we have a space where kids of all ages can play, explore, and enjoy the lakefront."
Lake Forest has partnered with Kids Around the World, a nonprofit that refurbishes playground equipment for underserved communities, to have two major components of the old playground reinstalled elsewhere.
