Multi-Car Pileup Halts Northbound Interstate 94 Near Wisconsin Border
Multiple entrapments were reported at the scene, which involved dozens of vehicles and diverted traffic off the interstate.

NEWPORT TOWNSHIP, IL — A traffic crash in Wisconsin involving dozens of vehicles has halted traffic across the border on Interstate 94.
Both directions of the interstate were closed between Beloit and Janesville in Rock County, Wisconsin, and northbound lanes traffic were closed at Russell Road in Lake County, according to state and county transportation officials.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area while first responders assist drivers, investigate the crash and work to clear the roadway," the Wisconsin Department of Transportation advised. The Lake County Department of Transportation encouraged drivers to find another route.

Wisconsin State Patrol said a crash took place around 12:30 p.m. north of the County Highway South near Beloit, and troopers find the interstate blocked in both directions.
Witnesses posted videos of flames and smoke coming from semitrailers, and state police told WREX there were "up to 50 cars involved" in the pileup.

At least three entrapments were reported at the scene, and emergency crews from more than a half-dozen area agencies, as well as a rescue helicopter, were called in to assist, the Kenosha News reported.
There was no immediate word on any injuries from the scene.
Snow and whiteout weather conditions are suspected of contributing to the crash, according to state police.
"This incident occurred during a severe winter weather event with snow, ice and whiteout conditions believed to be a factor in the initial crash."
