Navy Holds Hiring Fair For Child Care, Recreation Jobs In Great Lakes

Saturday's hiring fair will include on-site qualification screening, interviews and human resources orientation.

GREAT LAKES, IL — The Navy is holding a hire fair on Saturday to find civilian workers to provide child care and staff its recreational facilities.

The hiring fair is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the youth center at 2007 Virginia Ave., or building 8109, at Naval Station Great Lakes.

Jobs are available from Navy Child and Youth Programs, providing care for kids under 6, primary school-aged children and teens, as well as from the Morale, Welfare and Recreation, which operates programs including the marina, golf course, gyms, aquatics, recreation centers, food and beverage locations, libraries and special events.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED to be eligible for work with the child and youth programs.

Jobs are available in the recreation department for applicants as long as they are at least 16 years old.

Operating hours at Navy facilities range from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and shifts can include weekends, nights and special events.

Saturday's hiring fair will include on-site qualifications screening, interviews and human resources orientation.

Tentative hire letters will also be issued the same day, so applicants should be prepared to stay as needed, according to a Navy spokesperson.

All applicants should bring their resume, a photo ID card, SSN card, certifications (CPR, etc.), high school diploma/GED or official college transcripts if applicable, and bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit payments.

Navy officials asked applicants interested in Child and Youth Programs applicants to bring three references or letters of recommendation, including one personal and two professional.

Naval Station Great Lakes is the Navy's largest training base and the largest military base in Illinois. It sits on 1,628 acres and includes more than 1,150 buildings, 39 of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
