Partnership Provides Kids More Reading Opportunities

Children can settle in and read a book at the Gorton Children's Drop-in Center, donated by the Lake Forest Public Library.

The Gorton Children's Drop-in Center has partnered with the Friends of the Lake Forest Library to bring a children's book program to the center, located at 400 E. Illinois Rd.

The new "Children's Bookshelf" is at a child's eye level and features a variety of children's books, CDs and parenting books, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Many books have been donated by the library are sold for 50-cents to $1. Proceeds benefit the center and the Friends of Lake Forest Library.

"Friends of the Lake Forest Library give us funds for things that are outside what you would ordinarily expect the taxpayer to pay for," library director Kaye Grabb told the Tribune. "They give us funds for programming."

Open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Children’s Drop-In Center is a 25 year-old membership-based program that offers flexible, early childhood care, education and summer camp activities for children ages six weeks to 6 years, according to their website.
