PRESS RELEASE: District 67 APT's HUGS Food Drive Delivers Record Support for 2,100 Lake County Families

These food donations mark one of the most impactful efforts in the program's history.

LAKE FOREST, IL —Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 set a new record this fall, collecting 12,600 pounds of donated food during the annual District 67 Association of Parents and Teachers (APT) HUGS Food Drive. These food donations mark one of the most impactful efforts in the program’s history. Held November 10–14 across all District 67 schools, this year’s drive resulted in enough food to support approximately 2,100 families.

"The District 67 APT HUGS Food Drive is an annual APT-led initiative that captures the spirit of the Thanksgiving season," said District 67 and 115 Superintendent Dr. Matthew L. Montgomery. “This year’s record-setting collection not only supports our neighbors in need, but also reminds us of the strength, generosity, and compassion that define our community. We are grateful to the District 67 APT for continuing this honored tradition."

On Friday, November 14, 50 Deer Path Middle School students volunteered after school to sort, pack, and prepare donations for delivery. Thanks to the District 67 APT, and our students' efficiency and teamwork, the food was quickly distributed to Beacon Place, COOL Ministries Food Pantry, and North Chicago Community Partners—keeping every donation local and directly supporting neighboring communities.

Project FULL: Year-Round Community Support
The HUGS Food Drive is one part of a broader districtwide commitment to supporting families experiencing food insecurity. Project FULL, a joint initiative between Districts 67 and 115, provides ongoing assistance year-round by coordinating students, staff, and parent volunteers who collect and distribute food and funds to families in need.

All Project FULL contributions remain within Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood, ensuring support stays local and reaches families quickly. Families seeking assistance may confidentially request support through a district form, which is shared only with staff responsible for coordinating services.
