A Summer Ride Along with Lake Forest's Police Department

Discover the inns and outs of what it takes to be a police officer for the City of Lake Forest.

As the busiest season for the Lake Forest Police Department is underway, police officers are working harder than ever to ensure the community’s safety. Shadowing multiple officers provided an insight into their daily operations, current agendas, and love for Lake Forest.

The Police Department is currently working on a traffic enforcement campaign to ensure road safety and promote safe driving practices. Speed enforcement is part of the Police Department’s plan to decrease car accidents and traffic incidents.

In order to create safe drivers, Lake Forest Police Department collaborates with drivers education programs such as a-Adams School of Driving by bringing in an officer to discuss with students the precautions that must be taken while driving and how to handle being pulled over on the road.

In addition to traffic incidents, the Police Department commonly handles house intrusions and domestic violence calls. Officers deal with these crimes professionally and swiftly to keep vulnerable community members out of harm's reach and build trust with Lake Forest.

However, over the past 20 years, crime rate in Lake Forest has significantly decreased due to the new technology implemented into the Police Department and increased training carried out by the officers. More nuanced technology such as ticket printers, stronger body shields, and faster communication devices have been applied and officers are required to continue their training (while working) to be up to date on new legislation.
