LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Denisse Luria-Carlos, 35, of the 600 block of 10th Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on March 22 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license after a Westleigh Road resident reported that a white Nissan had struck and damaged his mailbox and drove away. Police found the car, pulled it over and spoke to the driver about the crash. Officers reported they also issued Luria-Carlos citations for revoked registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle after learning she was not legally permitted to drive.

A 17-year-old Vernon Hills boy was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on March 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over a white Honda Pilot after spotting the driver break a traffic law and throw an object from the car. The teen failed field sobriety tests and later provided a breath sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was 0.103. Officers also issued the juvenile motorist a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Ian Grady, 33, of the 800 block of North Bishop Street, Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. on March 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to Route 41 and Old Elm Road for a report of a gray Toyota SUV parked in the road with its driver apparently passed out. Before officers arrived, a witness called 911 to report that the car had driven away and parked at a car repair shop in the 1200 block of Skokie Highway. Police reported they found Grady in the driver's seat, a half-full bottle of Jameson whiskey and a red plastic cup in the front console with alcohol in it.

Joshua Hopkins, 45, of the 700 block of Clearwater Court, Wheeling, was arrested around 11 a.m. on April 3 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after officers were dispatched to a two-car traffic crash near the intersection of Old Elm Road and Route 41. Police reported Hopkins drove a white Nissan into a Ford 150 and continued south on Route 41 until pulling into a rug and flooring store in the 3300 block of Skokie Valley Road and passing out behind the wheel. Fire department personnel showed up and evaluated Hopkins, who was found to have taken methadone earlier in the day and determined to be too intoxicated to drive.

Jera L. Fleming-Schaffer, 26, of the 800 block of Vinewood Avenue, Willow Springs, was arrested around 1 a.m. on April 12 near the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath Road and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol after police clocked him driving 57 mph on Westleigh Road in a black Jeep and found he appeared impaired and smelled like marijuana. Fleming-Schaffer admitted smoking a marijuana "blunt" about 20 minutes prior to driving, and police found an open bottle of run and a container with 8.1 grams of cannabis in the back seat. He was also issued citations for illegal possession of cannabis by a driver and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver.
Ashley Mullarkey, 23, of the 1000 block of Evergreen Drive, Lake Forest, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on April 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and obstructing a peace officer following a traffic stop near the intersection of Deerpath and Westmoreland roads. Officers reported they smelled alcohol coming from the car Mullarkey demonstrated signs of impairment and told police she had picked up two passengers at a local bar but denied drinking herself. Following field sobriety tests, police took her into custody and also issued her a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Simranjeet S. Bhatti, 33, of the 36400 block of North Yew Tree Drive, Lake Villa, was arrested around 3 p.m. on April 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a two-car traffic crash at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Route 60. Officers found Bhatti had driven a white Tesla into the back of a Jeep Wrangler and told police he had no memory of teh crash. Officers found an open Jameson whiskey bottle on the driver's side floor board and at least two other open bottles of liquor in the car. He was taken to Lake Forest Hospital, where he provided a sample indicating his blood alcohol content was 0.475 — almost six times the legal limit. He was kept at the hospital due to the dangerous level of intoxication and later released. Officers also issued him citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
