Vernon Hills Man Dealt Drugs, Gun To Undercover Cop: Sheriff's Office

He now faces charges including armed habitual criminal and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

WAUKEGAN, IL — A Lake County judge ordered a Vernon Hills man accused of dealing drugs and firearms man to remain behind bars while awaiting trial.

Dentri Henning, 34, was arrested Thursday at his Farmingdale Circle home after members of the Lake County Sheriff's Office's special investigations group learned he was selling firearms and narcotics, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said Henning sold a gun and twice sold cocaine to an undercover detective.

Investigators seized more than 30 grams of cocaine and a semiautomatic pistol as part of the probe into Henning's activities, according to Covelli.

Henning has been charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and two counts each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful sale of a firearm.

Henning made an initial court appearance Friday, where a judge granted the prosecution's petition to order him detain while pending trial. He is due back in court on Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.

“Yet again, our Special Investigations Group has worked diligently to apprehend someone trafficking guns and drugs in our community," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said in a statement. "I am proud of everything they do to keep guns out of the wrong hands and drugs out of our community.”
