Woman Killed By Metra Train She Thought Was Stopping In North Chicago
The 57-year-old was trying to cross the tracks when she was struck by an express train Monday morning, according to the coroner's office.

WAUKEGAN, IL — A 57-year-old woman was fatally struck by a Metra train while crossing the tracks in front of a train that she believed was coming to a stop in North Chicago, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
Christina Egidi, of Grayslake, was hit by a express train around 9 a.m. at the North Chicago train station at 1633 Lakeside Ave., authorities said.
According to the coroner's office, she was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later determined the cause of the death to be blunt force trauma.

Metra's train No. 320, which struck Egidi, had been due to depart Highland Park at 8:30 a.m. and head to Chicago, according to the Union Pacific North Line schedule.
But Metra representatives notified passengers that morning that No. 320 had not departed due to positive train control issues.

Shortly before the train hit Egidi, Metra announced plans for train No. 324 to operate ahead of No. 320 and accommodate its passengers.
The Metra Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
