2 Construction Workers Injured After Brick Facade Collapses Near Lake Zurich

Two construction workers were injured after a large portion of a brick facade on the front of a home collapsed onto them near Lake Zurich Friday afternoon.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2 p.m. Friday to the 21300 block of West Ridge Road in unincorporated Lake Zurich.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that it was reported the side of a home collapsed.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the brick on the entire front side of the home had fallen down.

Firefighters reported two construction workers were injured by the falling brick facade.

Covelli said a preliminary investigation shows a crew was at the residence to put new siding on the house.

The crew was removing brick when the entire brick wall gave way and collapsed.

Two workers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the collapse.

One man, who is in his 30s, may lose a finger, Covelli said. He was transported to the hospital.

The second male victim was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.

The Lake County Building Department and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) were notified of the incident.

Both agencies responded and are conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident.
