2 Firefighters, Homeowner Hurt In House Fire In Lake Zurich

Two firefighters and a homeowner were injured during an extra-alarm fire overnight at a home in Lake Zurich, officials said.

LAKE ZURICH, IL β€” Two firefighters and a homeowner were injured during an extra-alarm fire overnight at a home in Lake Zurich, officials said. The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded around 1:43 a.m. Sunday to the 21000 block of West Highland Drive for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the residence. All occupants of the home had evacuated when responders arrived.

Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and later deployed a ladder truck with a master stream to gain control of the blaze, Lake Zurich Fire Chief John Malcom said.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm level, bringing 16 area fire departments to the scene to assist.

Once the fire was contained, firefighters were able to search the home and conduct salvage operations.

Two firefighters and the owner of the home sustained minor injuries. They were treated and released at the scene.

Malcom said that the home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The preliminary damage is estimated at $300,000 in property and contents that were lost.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Lake Zurich Fire Department.
