Coroner Works To ID Person Found Dead After Fire

The person is believed to be a family member who did not live at the Hawthorn Woods home.

HAWTHORN WOODS, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office is still working to identify a person found dead inside a home in Hawthorn Woods. But officials do believe the person is a family member who did not reside at the home in the 0 to 100 block of Rosewood Drive, which went up in flames on Sunday afternoon.

The Lake County Coroner's Office was called to the blaze at about 3:10 p.m. on Sunday and found the house heavily involved in flames, authorities said. While fire investigators were inside the home, working to pump water out of the home's basement while looking for the area where the fire started, a body was found, according to a news release.

The Lake County Coroner's Office responded to the scene. In a statement released Tuesday, the coroner's office announced it had not yet positively identified the person who died.

"The deceased, believed to be a family member who did not reside at the home, will be positively identified through further scientific examination, including dental comparison in the coming days," according to the coroner's office.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy on Tuesday. Autopsy results are pending further studies, toxicology testing, including carbon monoxide levels and further investigation, according to the coroner's office.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hawthorn Woods Police Department, Lake Zurich Fire Department, local fire investigators and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
